27 Dresses (2008) Film Review

Often, I don’t mind a romantic comedy. A bit of rubbish, a bit of silliness. It’s like watching b-grade or below television shows – as long as there are good characters, I don’t end up yelling at the screen too much, and generally get a bit of a laugh.

Not with this one. 27 Dresses is total rubbish. The plot is romantic comedy enough – Jane loves weddings and has been bridesmaid 27 times, but now her bimbo sister has managed to land Jane’s boss, her love of wedding is challenged. See, Jane is in love with her boss. Then, there is the handsome newspaper writer who has been stuck writing up society weddings, but is desperate for something different. Add in some misunderstandings, some terrible dresses and yawn, you have a very average comedy.

The big problem for me was there were several characters who I simply didn’t believe. Like, Jane. I didn’t see any real chemistry between Jane and her boss. And why on earth would she suddenly trust the journalist who she doesn’t even like? I didn’t buy it, and what’s more, I didn’t like it.

  1. I had so much hope for this film – it’s such a great premise – always the bridesmaid and never the bride! But you are absolutely right – it is TOTAL rubbish and completely unbeliveable. I felt so cheated. And dirty.
