A group of young offenders escape their detention from a reform school deep in rural Argentina and make their way through the wilderness toward the city again. They are used to the hard life; violence, drugs and alcohol. Out in the bush, they need to find food and shelter.
The cast consists of non-professional actors cast from similar situations to the characters, and it works extremely well. It is a slow-moving, long film and not afraid to put the characters through tough situations that were, at times, quite confronting to watch. It was a bit annoying that some characters just disappeared – once they’d found their path or their place, we didn’t see them again at all.
It seems my festival is consisting of a lot of long and slow films that I expect to dislike, but are actually blowing me away with their sensitivity, like The Wild Ones.
