You Are Here (2010) MIFF Film Review

I don’t like criticising movies – I love the form and I love to see it being used in interesting ways, but I just didn’t get this. I don’t really know what happened. I think it was an exploration into identity. Or something.

There were lots of separate pieces of the film that eventually came together, but I didn’t understand what it was moving toward. I would have walked out of this film except that I was reviewing it, and I don’t like the idea of reviewing a film without watching it through to the end. So, I persevered.

What was good about it? There was some beautiful and interesting cinematography that gave a variety of interesting effects, notably the scene in the office. The film did have humour, thank goodness, but I really did struggle with it. That was pretty much it for me. I hope others watching got more out of this than I did.
