Lola (Franka Potente) is a girl with shocking red hair who lives in Berlin with her boyfriend, Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu). Having worked doing minor jobs for a criminal group, they have taken on a larger job of delivering 100, 000 Deutschmarks. But, Lola’s scooter is stolen, and Manni has to take the train, and he stupidly leaves the bag of cash on the train. Manni plans to rob a supermarket to get the money, but he gives Lola twenty minutes to find the money before he does. Lola runs across the city to find a way to get the cash.
The film is told in three parts; each a different scenario of what Lola does. It is extremely fast moving with a strong soundtrack and editing that swings from stills to various film stock to animation. I love this film and could watch it over and over. I love the energy and the style. Plus, it has given me two catchphrases that I still use in everyday life. “Die tasche!” (the bag) and “Schnell, man!” (Fast, man).
