I Declare War (2012) – MIFF Film Review

I-Declare-War-Feature

Canada 91 mins

A group of kids are playing war in their local forest. Two teams, two flags. Whoever gets the opposition flag wins. There are more rules, and it is when the rules start to be broken that things get out of hand.

There are several factors that make this film an excellent watch. Firstly, the kids are depicted carrying real guns and weaponry. Whilst the grenades are clearly shown to be water balloons with red food colouring, the images of young teens running around with weapons can be quite confronting. Also, the children take this game so seriously – to the point of no return.

I Declare War is part of the Next Gen programming of MIFF. School bookings are available.

I Declare screens at Greater Union on Saturday, July 27 at 4pm and Saturday August 3 at 1:30pm. To book tickets, visit http://miff.com.au/
