Jaws (1975) Film Review

A girl going for a skinny dip is killed by a shark in the delightful summer holiday town of Amity, the town’s council won’t let Police Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) close the beaches down in fear of losing the tourist dollar. But when the attacks keep coming, it is down to Brody, a young scientist called Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and a mad fisherman called Quint (Robert Shaw) to take Jaws down.

I’ve avoided so many scary films in my time because I’m a total wuss. Like The Exorcist, I think one of the reasons I was able to cope with Jaws was that the effects are fairly average by today’s standards. The story is fab, though, keeping me on edge throughout. Sure, many of the characters are over the top but  let’s face it, we’re all watching it for the shark and the shark attacks.

Jaws won Oscars for Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Music – Original Dramatic Score and was Nominated for Best Picture.
