In Bob We Trust (2013) Film Review

In Bob We Trust tells the story of an outspoken and unconventional priest who is forced into retirement. Father Bob Maguire was the parish priest in South Melbourne for over thirty years, working closely with homeless people and addicts and has, in recent years, become a regular presence in the media when moral guidance is sought.

There are many reasons he is an interesting subject for a documentary; key for me is that he is outspoken on the failings of the church and does not shy away from tough topics including the many cases of sexual abuse and cover up within the church. Me, I’m not religious. But I think this documentary is a very worthwhile watch, even though it clearly presents just the one strong view. Father Bob is a top bloke.
