The High Places by Fiona McFarlane – Book Review

A collection of short stories that cover a wide range of times and places, McFarlane creates wonderful characters that I very quickly became engaged in their lives. The problem, as I often find with short stories, is that I want more. I found that McFarlane would take me to a place in the story and I wanted to go further, but the story was over. In some cases, that really annoyed me because I felt that there was more story that needed to be told, and I wanted to hear it. But, other times, it was perfect to be left hanging. It’s a strong collection of short stories and I know I’m interested in finding more of her work.
