French Exit by Patrick deWitt – Book Review

Frances is an older widow living in the US with adult son and spending their fortune. When it seems that she has spent a bit more than is best, she and her son flee to Paris to start a new life.

I picked this up in an op shop because it looked interesting and had quotes stating that it was hilarious and the like. I then suggested it to my book club. I think this was a mistake. I mean, it was fine, but just not very funny, with characters who were, for the most part, pretty unlikeable. I certainly didn’t laugh out loud, and while there were some notably beautiful sentences, overall… nope. This was not for me.
