Doctor Sleep (2019) Film Review

Danny from The Shining is now an adult, played by Ewan McGregor, and after battling the demon of alcoholism, partly in an attempt to forget the horror of his childhood and partly to tamp down the voices he hears due to The Shining, he now lives in a small town, living a quiet life. But when a powerful force, turning out to be young Abra Stone (Kyliegh Curran) reaches out, he sees no option but to help.

I thought this was an excellent adaptation of the book. It gave a real sense of the creepiness of Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson) and her fellow travellers. I’m not sure if the end varied from the book – I felt as though it did, but I recall in the book I struggled to get my mind around the final battle, whereas in the film everything fell into place.

I liked the way the film very much kept us in the world of the Kubrick film whilst staying close to the King story. I’d be very interested in hearing what other fans of the book, or of The Shining in any way, have to say about this film.
