The Power of the Dog (2021) Film Review

Set in ranch life in Montana in the 1920s, this tells the story of the brutal Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch), his brother George (Jesse Plemons), George’s new wife, Rose (Kristen Dunst) and her son Peter (Kodi Smith-McPhee).

This is a film which received huge critical acclaim, was nominated for awards, and is considered by many to be an amazing work of art… and I just didn’t get it. Yes, it is stunning and brutal, but it just did nothing for me.

The Power of the Dog was Oscars for Best Achievement in Directing (Jane Campion) and was nominated for Best Actor in a Lead Role (Benedict Cumberbatch), Best Supporting Actor (Kodi Smith-McPhee) (Jesse Plemons), Best Supporting Actress in a Supporting Role (Kirsten Dunst),  Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Achievement in Production Design, Best Sound, Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Achievement in Film Editing and Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score).
