The book The Rings of Saturn is written by W.G. Sebald a German writer and Academic, as he takes a walking tour round Suffolk. It is widely considered to be a very important work that spans a variety of genres and classifications, and is the focus of this film. In Patience (After Sebald), director Grant Gee has created a beautiful work which includes footage of some of the areas from the book, accompanied by commentary from a variety of academics, writers and filmmakers talking about their experience with the book and with Sebald.
It is a beautiful film, with images that seem to fold over each other and blend into each other. The different themes and concepts are explored gently and left me feeling that the text itself must be so dense. I look forward to seeing this documentary again in the future after reading The Rings of Saturn.
